Have you tried to quit tobacco in the past?

Most tobacco users try several times before they quit for good. Each time you try, you increase your chances of successfully quitting. Through QUITPLAN Services, you can get the help you need to learn from your past attempts and make a plan that’s tailored just for you. Individual QUITPLAN Services include text messaging, email messaging, a Quit Guide and a free two-week Starter Kit of patches, gum or lozenges. These services can be used individually or together in a way that works best for you. Or you can choose the QUITPLAN Helpline, which includes counseling calls along with the other tools from QUITPLAN Services.

Do you think tobacco is harming your health?

You know that using tobacco is hurting your health and that’s important. Becoming tobacco-free is the single best thing you can do to protect and improve your health. Your chances of having a heart attack or stroke get lower soon after you quit. In fact, your blood pressure will decrease within 20 minutes of quitting! Breathing and being active will be easier too.

The single best thing you can do to protect and improve your health is to quit tobacco. You may be lucky and not have had any health problems that you’re aware of. But as a tobacco user you’re at a much higher risk of a heart attack, among other things. The good news is that those risks lower soon after quitting. Breathing and being active will become easier too. Simply put, those who quit are healthier and live longer than those who don’t.

Do you have family or friends who will support you in your effort to quit?

Because you have the support of family and friends, you are more likely to succeed in quitting than someone who doesn’t. Let them know you are thinking about quitting and discuss how they can help you. If you enroll in the QUITPLAN Helpline, you will get an Ally Booklet to give to someone of your choice. This booklet will give your friend or family member tips on how he or she can support you. You can also access our online community at the QUITPLAN Services Facebook page, where you can share ideas and problems with others who are quitting or already quit.

Support can come from many places: you can seek help from a health care provider, trained tobacco counselor or coach or an online community. Through QUITPLAN Services you have access to more support. For example, if you sign up for the QUITPLAN Helpline, you will work with a trained tobacco coach who will provide you with resources and support throughout your quitting process. Do you have other tobacco users around you at home or at work?

There are easy steps to take when there are other tobacco users in your life. First off, ask them if they’d be willing not to use tobacco around you. If you let them know quitting is really important to you, most will be willing to help. If they are not willing to do this, then you should try and stay away from them while they are using tobacco, or find an activity to keep your hands or mouth busy (such as chewing gum or on a straw). With no other tobacco users around you, you have an excellent chance of quitting for good. Studies show that those who don’t have other tobacco users around them at home or work do much better when trying to quit.

Secondhand smoke causes many health problems in nonsmoking adults (heart attacks and breathing problems) and children (more serious lung infections and ear infections).
