It’s a fact. Quitting tobacco is the single best thing you can do for your health. We know it’s not an easy thing to do, but you don’t have to do it alone.

If you have Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare (Minnesota Health Plan Programs), you now have free coverage for both counseling and the following medications to help you quit:

  • Patches
  • Gum
  • Lozenges
  • Nicotine inhaler
  • Nicotine nasal spray

Talk to your doctor about the right medication and support for you. If you want to use free medication, be sure to ask for a prescription. And as you prepare for your quitting journey, keep these 5 keys to successful quitting in mind:

  1. Set a quit date.
  2. Use quit medications effectively.
  3. Learn how to cope with urges to use tobacco.
  4. Remove tobacco products from your surroundings.
